What We're Doing

Exploring Content and Modalities for SCS-Wide Diversity Training

The pilot of SCS DEI training is under evaluation by a small group of volunteers in our community! In August, the SCS DEI team will report on their initial reflections and seek additional input for future revisions.

Increasing Diversity Through the LEAP Alliance

The original LEAP Alliance was formed in 2017 with an NSF INCLUDES grant and a grant from the Sloan Foundation. Today, the alliance consists of 11 institutions that produce over 50% of the computing faculty at the top 55 research institutions. To date, we have collectively built mentoring programs, professional development events and opportunities for community building among the LEAP fellows. We have also undertaken benchmarking, data collection, and sharing of best practices for recruiting, admissions and retention of both doctoral and undergraduate students. Read more in this story on the Center for Minorities and People with Disabilities in Information Technology website.

Building New Partnerships

This month, the SCS DEI Team has met with a number of academic and industrial organizations to explore new partnerships that could lead to new funding to help attract and retain individuals underrepresented in computing, and enrich existing and create new education and mentorship opportunities.
